How to Install an SSL Certificate in Plesk

Steps to Install SSL in Plesk

To install a paid SSL certificate, you must remove the existing free Let’s Encrypt certificate if installed in your panel. To do this, follow these steps below;

1. Remove Free SSL from Plesk

1. Login to the Plesk panel

2. After logging in, you have to find and click on websites and domains in the menu.

3. After that, all domains in the panel will appear; select a “domain name” by clicking on it, where you are looking to install an SSL certificate. 

4. Locate the security section and click on “SSL/TLS Certificates”.

5. After that new page will appear, you have to click the “Manage” button in the download or remove existing certificates section.

6. Then you have to click the “Unassign Certificate” button to unassign an existing SSL certificate from your domain.

7. After it has been unassigned, click on the “Advanced Settings” option.

8. You will see a list of SSL certificates installed in your Plesk panel. To delete the certificate, click on the Remove button.

9. That’s it; the free SSL certificate from Let’s Encrypt has been deleted from your Plesk panel.

2. Add an SSL in the Plesk Panel

1. After you delete the free SSL certificate, you have to click on the ‘Add SSL/TLS Certificate’ button.

2. On a new certificate upload page, scroll down to the ‘upload the certificate as text’ section and paste the following certificate in the text as given below:

Certificate file (‘.crt’ extension)

Private key file (‘.key’ extension)

CA certificate file

3. Once all details are filled in, click the ‘Upload Certificate’ button.

3. Assign the SSL to a Domain

1. After the SSL installation, navigate to the “Hosting and DNS” section of the domain, where you installed the SSL certificate.

2. In that section, click on the ‘Hosting’ option.

3. On the new page, under the ‘SSL/TLS support’ section, you have to tick these two options:

Enabled

    Redirect visitors from HTTP to HTTPS via an SEO-friendly 301 redirect.

    4. Once done, click the ‘Save’ button to finish the process.
