How to Check Logs in Google Workspace

  • by

Google Workspace is a cloud-based tool that has been proven to help agencies as well as freelancers. One major feature is logs monitoring, especially the ‘Google email log’. In this blog post, I’ll go through the importance, types and methods to access and interpret these logs in Google Workspace.

What is Google Workspace Logs

When using the term ’logs’ when referring to Google Workspace, we’re talking about events that record within the applications. These logs can give an inside perspective about your Google Workspace domain. Among them, Google Workspace email logs play a special role as they note all the email activities that make them important for monitoring communication and troubleshooting various problems.

Types of Google Workspace Logs

Google Workspace makes available a variety of logs so that administrators may monitor different activities:

App reports: Provide in-depth information about the usage of Google Workspace apps within your organization. This includes data related to the apps that are within Google Workspace, especially Google email log.

Cost Reports: Those who have consumption-based subscriptions can access these reports. Even though I don’t know what exactly we get inside these logs, all I can say is this can give us a good idea on where we’re spending most of our funds.

User Reports: These logs focus on three key aspects such as Accounts, App Usage, and Security.

Audit & Investigation: This is the main part where you can get logs for almost everything. Inside this section, you might discover 25+ logs.

Why is it Crucial to Check Logs?

Keeping a check on Google Workspace logs, we can know where we stand as a freelancer, small business, or a large enterprise. If we’re sending emails, we can track how many outbound emails were there. And not only that, we can even see how many inbound spam emails we have been receiving lately.

Apart from this, we can track our total costs which is one of the best things. After all, we can know whether the amount we have spent on our campaigns gave us good results or not.

Last but not the least, there are 25+ micro logs that can help us identify things that we haven’t even discussed. For instance, admin, chat, calendar, contacts, currents, and the list goes on.

Guide to Access & Check Logs

Log access and interpretation is an elementary task. Here’s how you do it:

Step 1: Log into the Google Admin Console with your admin account.

Step 2: From the options available, select the type of log you want to check. For ‘Google email log’, go to Reporting > Reports > App Reports > Gmail.

Step 3: Just in case you want to see other logs, you can check other logs inside the same section.

To wrap things up

What I’ve shown you in this blog post is the easiest way to track G Suite email log. Other than this, there are many ways to review these logs but those are not easy. You literally have to get into coding. So, if you’re a beginner, I won’t recommend something like that. Just in case you want to get into details, I’d recommend you should take a look at this.
